Our Curriculum
"Leaders have worked closely across the Brooke Weston Trust to establish an ambitious curriculum that starts in the early years and builds logically to ambitious end points." ~ Ofsted, April 2023
At Compass Primary, the uniqueness of every child is recognised and valued. As such, we aim to:
- Create lifelong learners
- Give the powerful knowledge to address disadvantage
- Create responsible citizens who have the self-belief and ambition to make a difference in the future
- Empower pupils to be creative, critical thinkers
- Prepare pupils for the next steps in their education.
- Nurture individuals who will care for themselves, each other and the world they live in
To do this, our inclusive curriculum embraces the community from which it exists, recognising and celebrating the diverse backgrounds and experiences from which our children originate, allowing all our pupils to leave Compass Primary Academy well-equipped for the next stage in their education and an appreciation of the world they live in.
Our ambitious, accessible and culturally-rich curriculum meets the National Curriculum end points and beyond. It introduces our pupils to the best that has been thought of and said, and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement, powerfully addressing disadvantage and recognising the value of life-long learning.
Our curriculum content has been carefully chosen by our own subject experts in collaboration with National subject-specific specialists and organisations, whilst maintaining integrity with the National Curriculum and meeting the specific needs and opportunities of each school’s unique context and community. It is organised in a coherent way, ensuring children can build on their knowledge from year to year. In this way, the knowledge in the curriculum is cumulative, constructing firm foundations and schema from which children can progress and develop deeper conceptual understanding and subject-specific knowledge and skills over time.
We constantly plan and provide inspiring experiences, such as our 50B4YR7 initiative to instil awe and wonder within our pupils. We daily celebrate and nurture the individual talents of our pupils, recognising that everyone is unique with their own ambitions, skills and dreams.
Community involvement is also an essential part of our curriculum as we build strong connections within it, learning new skills to enable children to take an active role in events throughout the year. We aim for all our pupils to leave Compass Primary Academy with a sense of belonging and connection to their community, where they have the confidence and skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, make connections and become lifelong learners.
Our pupils "are well prepared for life in modern Britain." ~ Ofsted, April 2023
